Veteran Roof Giveaway: A Free Roof Replacement for Veterans Who Need One
The veteran roof giveaway is a free roof replacement awarded by a national program, not by RISE Roofing. Every year a national program puts new roofs on the homes of veterans who need them. It's run by QXO, the building-products distributor that bought Beacon Roofing Supply, and it used to be called Beacon of Hope. Today it's called QXO for Veterans. Since it started in 2018, it has installed more than 60 roofs for veterans and for organizations that serve them.
We don't pick the winners. QXO runs the program. What we do is post the nomination link here when a round opens, and help Austin-area families get a nomination ready.
When Nominations Open
Nominations open once a year. The last round opened on Veterans Day, November 11, and closed on December 17, 2025. We'll put the link to this year's nomination page here as soon as QXO opens it. There's nothing to fill out until then.
Who Can Be Nominated
QXO takes nominations for qualifying veterans and for veteran organizations in the United States and Canada. If you know an Austin veteran living under a worn-out or leaking roof, whether it's a parent, a neighbor or someone from your post, you can put their name forward. QXO sets the eligibility rules for each round, so read them on its nomination page before you apply.
How Winners Are Chosen
A panel of judges reviews the nominations. In the last round it included QXO executives, veterans, and the publishers of two roofing trade outlets, Roofers Coffee Shop and Roofing Contractor magazine. QXO named 13 winners in February 2026: 10 veterans and 3 veteran organizations across the U.S. and Canada. Each winning roof is installed by a local roofing contractor using TRI-BUILT and GAF materials.
Getting a Nomination Ready
You can gather most of what a strong nomination needs before the round opens:
- Photos of the roof from the yard, plus any water stains on ceilings or in the attic.
- The veteran's story: their service, and what a sound roof would mean for them and their family.
- A clear picture of the roof's condition. We'll inspect a veteran's roof for free and give you photos and a written summary of what we find.
If the Roof Can't Wait
The program picks a small number of winners once a year, so it can't help with a leak that's happening now. If a veteran's roof needs work sooner, look at USDA repair loans and grants for homes in rural areas around Austin, or roof financing through Acorn Finance, a third-party lender.
